Trier and the Sign of the Purple Cow

The Sclavanian city of Trier was located some forty miles southwest of Tapferkeitenhaven and less than twenty miles south of the Sclavanian-New East Anglian border, had a population of sixty thousand, sat at an altitude of 212 feet above sea level, and was located on the Gray- stone River.

The Anglisch-language pamphlets Baugh handed out to us said that it was the business center for an agricultural area devoted to diversified farming, most importantly, cotton. The raising of livestock and the packing of meat were also important means of livelihood for the local population. Industry consisted of textile mills, thread finishing, cottonseed oil and fertilizer works, as well as a small-armaments plant producing handguns, and facilities producing trade goods for the Skralang market. Trier was also noted for the large quantity of excellent-quality Skralang-made products, brought from the Skralang Nations to the west.

Historically the city had first been an Anglianer possession, though at the time no more than a trading post deep in territories controlled by Skralangs. In the early 1800s Imperial colonists had displaced the Anglianers and the city of Trier was founded and given Imperial charter in 1836. In 1842 it was the site of the signing of the Treaty of Die Rasiermeisse which established the border between the Imperial Colony and the Skralang Nations, which still stood.

It was also noted as being the birthplace of the famed colonial artist Adolph Gottfried in 1873 and of the statesman Ernst Hugoner in 1902.

The city, composed roughly of the Old Town and the New Town, was an interesting specimen of the mixture of Old Imperial architecture and of the newer styles of the twentieth century, we were told. More important was
